It may be thought that the title of this paper calls for some explanation.
On previous occasions when I have talked on this subject before Craft Lodges, I have used the somewhat prosaic title, "Some Points from Old Rituals," which never satisfied my alleged aesthetic taste. Very recently I was chatting with my valued friend, V.W. Bro. the Rev. David Calder—a man greatly beloved—and I thought, knowing his genius in such matters, that he would be able to suggest a really good title.
I was not disappointed, for he at once suggested several; and in view of the many beautiful things stored away in these Rituals of long ago, rich with the fragrance of memory, no more appropriate designation could be given to them than "Lavender and Old Lace"—fragrant, lovely things.
