Francis Bacon was very colourful to say the least and has the following reputation:
He was the child of a morganatic marriage between Elizabeth I and Sir Nicholas Bacon.
He might have used the pen-name of William Shakespeare.
He was the editor of the King James Bible.
He had a profound knowledge of all that there was to know at that time and an
insatiable curiosity for more knowledge.
He died from a chill caught whilst conducting an experiment in preserving chicken flesh in snow and salt but this “death” might have been concocted to escape his creditors because another story has it that he fled to France and died some years later!
And so on.
