At that self-conscious moment at our initiation when we stood in the N.E. corner and heard the words, "like its Sister Mercy blesses him that gives as largely as him that receives" a fleeting thought probably passed through the mind—"Shakespeare."
During that ceremony it is unlikely that the thought recurred—the necessity to concentrate and to endeavour to orient one's self being uppermost. It is not intended to-night to formulate any theory as to the connection of Shakespeare with the Craft, but to consider in what way that mighty mind may have influenced the thoughts of those to whom we owe the Ritual as we now know it.
