A study of the history of Freemasonry reveals the fact that the principles of the Order were originally Christian, that the Christian Church was directly acknowledged and honour demanded for it.
With the spread of the order and a need for a more liberal basis upon which worthy men of other creeds might be admitted to membership, these principles were abandoned and a Monotheistic belief required, "leaving each brother to his own particular opinion."
The Charge concerning God and Religion in our own Constitution reads: "Let a man's religion or mode of worship be what it may, he is not excluded from the Order, provided he believe in the glorious Architect of heaven and earth and practise the sacred duties of morality."
