The three degrees of Masonry may be summed up as symbolically representing Birth, Manhood and Death, the three most important stages in this life, and which are of vital importance to all men. In the first, man has no choice of place, or time, but is entirely the creature of circumstances. Born into the world with nothing to commend him, helpless, naked and dependent upon the nurse for nurture and comfort : thus are all candidates Masonically born, stripped of all the adornments of this life, stumbling helpless into Masonry, dependent on a Conductor for guidance, and thus displaying the great lesson of Equality. What a lesson we learn here !
