The lodges I helped to create were actually born of research into the modern Mason's mind.
My vocation. (of journalist) in those days took me widely and intimately among all classes of people, from lowest criminals to the representatives of the King—and, by the way, I found Masons all along the route !
What impressed me most in that Masonic pilgrimage was the number of Masons there were who were unattached.
And they were local leaders in thought, the professions, business, the Church, public affairs ; the men we particularly like to see in the Craft.
