As a teacher of mathematics, I have had an interest in numbers for well over the twenty-five years I have been teaching.
One of my fascinations has been with the "prime" numbers, that is, numbers that only have two factors.
Seven is a prime number, as, incidentally, is seventeen!
A glance at the Collins English Dictionary shows that amongst the "sevens" listed there is reference to the 'Seven Hills of Home', the hills on which the ancient city of Rome was built, namely, the Palatine, Capitoline, Quirinal, Caelian, Aventine, Esquiline and Viminal.
The 'Seven Seas' are also mentioned, being the North and South Pacific, the North and South Atlantic, and the Arctic, Antarctic, and Indian Oceans.
Finally, from this source, I see mention of the 'seven deadly sins', which are the sins of pride, covetousness, lust, envy, gluttony, anger, and sloth.
