In trying to address that subject, I felt it would be helpful to refer to a recognised authority and scholar of Freemasonry the late RW Brother Dr. Hepburn.
I found his comments on “What is the correct relationship between Freemasonry and the Church?” most helpful.
In answer to that question, he says on pg.311 of “Questions &Answers”: “So far as the individual Brother is Concerned, he should according to his own denomination and not regard his Lodge as a substitute for his Church.
Apart from this it is difficult to make any authoritative pronouncement on the matter”.
I Can only agree with his comments, on what I have chosen to tonight is in speak on an amalgam of “The relation of Freemasonry to the Church”, and “What is if that certain Clergy and Churches have’ against Craft?”
There are a couple of things I want to say at the outset
(1) That as a Minister of Religion I find nothing in the teachings of Freemasonry which is incompatible with civil, or religious duties, because of the fact that Freemasonry is not a religion though one has to admit that some members make it theirs;
(2) That as a Minister of Religion and a Freemason, I am in the privileged position of being able to enjoy the best of both worlds!
