Much as we might like to research this man, Hiram Abiff, little is available in our libraries to back up the important part which he has been made to play in our present ritual.
We are told that he was a cunning man, endued with great wisdom and understanding, and that he was sent by Hiram King of Tyre, to aid and assist King Solomon in the building of the Temple.
The earliest discussion in Masonic records which describes the meaning of the name occurs in Anderson’s Constitution of 1723 which describes Hiram or Huram as “the most accomplished Mason on earth”.
