The outstanding feature of the 20th century is the complete revolution that has occurred in man's physical environment with consequential changes affecting both his mental outlook and his way of life.
The past hundred years has seen such an advance in knowledge and in technology as has no parallel in history.
The invention of the internal combustion engine, of the motor car, and aeroplane; of wireless telegraphy and radar; of the electron microscope, and transistors; of the gramophone, cinema and colour photography; of the beta Tron and hydrogen bomb; of tractors and giant earthmoving machines; of television and computers to name but a few inventions and discoveries, has so changed human life as to exceed the wildest dreams of our forefathers.
