Those of you who are familiar with the preamble to the Book of Constitution will remember that it tells us that Freemasonry was established in New Zealand in 1842 and that up to 1889 it was practised by numerous lodges formed under charter from the United Grand Lodge of England, the Grand Lodge of Scotland, and the Grand Lodge of Ireland.
The significance of the year 1889 is that it was in that year that the decision to erect a Grand Lodge of New Zealand was made.
The Grand Lodge was constituted on 29th April, 1890.
