When considering what is ‘beyond the Craft’, joining Red Lodge immediately springs to mind for many of us, or embracing a side order to gain further knowledge of some of the more esoteric elements of Freemasonry.
However, ‘beyond the Craft’, may also refer to the behaviour of Freemasons outside of their Masonic duties within the lodge.
What did going ‘beyond the Craft' mean to Freemasons in Sydney during the mid-nineteenth century?
How did our early Australian Freemasons behave when they weren’t in lodge?
Did they pursue well- crafted lives or were they just ‘crafty?’
These Masons helped shape the future of a colony on the brink of becoming a nation and brought stability to a society where ‘peace, love and harmony’ were in very short supply.
