The first work on Freemasonry was "Morals and Dogma" by Albert Pike. Albert Pike was a lawyer by profession, a man of wide and varied learning.
His book is profound, hard to read, in that, at first sight, there appear many seeming contradictions.
It is not until you have read it through and through that you find a cord of unity running through his system of Masonic Philosophy. The one thing that impressed me, was his insistence upon Liberty of Interpretation.
