As far as I have been able to ascertain, there has been neither an address, nor a discussion in this Lodge at any time, upon the subject of the symbolism and implications of the Past Master's Jewel.
As Brethren will be aware, this consists of a square to which is appended a representation of which is generally known as the forty-seventh proposition of the First Book of Euclid, known to generations of schoolboys as the theorem of Pythagoras.
This proposition occupies an important place, not only in Masonry but in the whole scheme of
the Science of Mathematics, and I feel it is a worthy subject for contemplation and discussion in this Lodge.
