There is no portion of history of the Order so interesting to the Masonic scholar as that, which is embraced by the Middle Ages of Christendom, beginning with about the 10th Century when the whole of civilised Europe was perambulated by those associations of workmen, who passed from country to country under the name of Travelling Masons for the purpose of erecting religious edifices.
The following is a brief sketch of the origin and progress of these Masons' Associations.
