Brethren, I called this talk ‘The Origins & History of the Tracing Board’ as it focuses on their historical development, not the symbolism and allegorical imagery they now depict.
The tracing boards are immovable jewels in our lodges, but they are also a fascinating reminder of an operative past and the early days of Speculative Freemasonry.
Their story ranges from mops and buckets to atomic science; from a magnificent biblical temple to a retirement home in Croydon; and touches on much more in between.
