Townsville Masonic Hall is a heritage-listed former masonic temple at 485-493 Sturt Street, Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia.
The Townsville Masonic Hall, later renamed 'Lampada' Hall, has a rich history rooted in the Freemasons.
It was built in 1889 and served as the meeting place for the Freemasons until 1934.
The building was sold to the Townsville Assembly of God, who used it for various purposes, including a school and a temple.
Eventually, it was transferred to the Townsville Choral and Orchestral Society and is still used by them today.
Number 25 in the series of unique ‘treasures’ is the photographic portrait of MW Bro William Herbert Green.
But more importantly, it is an elaboration on his significant contribution to Freemasonry in Queensland.
His is one of the thirty-one portraits of Past Grand Masters on the walls in the Court of Remembrance in Ann Street Masonic Memorial Centre.
He was installed Grand Master of UGLQ in 1929-31 and again 1932-34.
During his first term as Grand Master, the Masonic Memorial Centre, 311 Ann St, Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia was dedicated.
He personally conducted the dedication of the Grand Hall.
