Brother Douglas Knoop writing in the Transactions of the Quator Coronati Lodge, Volume LVI at page 277 expresses the opinion that the evolution of a Lodge would appear to have passed through three stages:
(1) Operative Lodges.
(2) Lodges of Accepted Masons.
(3) Lodges of Speculative Masons.
