He therefore hastens to point out that the full title should have been "A Look at Freemasonry in Search of Attitudes" or, alternatively, "A Search for Attitudes" — the attitude of early Masons, or Speculative Masons, of those who gave us the 18th century ritual, and finally, the changing attitudes of Lodge Masons at the present day.
During the preparation of the Paper, he asked about four hundred Masons to answer a Questionnaire in order to glean something of their attitude to certain matters. Thanks are expressed to those who responded. Members of this Lodge of Research were requested to answer an additional nine questions — making a total of twenty — in reference to the ritual.
The results of the Questionnaires will be given towards the end.
