Already since the circularization of the Lodge notices, I have been startled by being asked who were the Sons of Heth, and asked from where the name comes.
Perhaps this may act as a warning to me as a layman not to attempt to deal with matters relative to the Bible.
However, our subject is not so much the account in Holy Writ as the actual history, which recent archaeology has deciphered, and which amplifies the allusions in the Bible to the "Sons of Heth."
The title will be found in Gen. xxiii 20. With your permission, Wor. Master, we to-night turn our attention to that people, to whom the historians of the Old Testament alluded (in the English translation) first by the name of "The Sons of Heth," and whom also they later and perfectly correctly called by a different name, the "Hittites."
