When one considers the high importance attached to King Solomon in our Institution, it is somewhat of a reflection on us that so little effort is apparently made to study his character in order that we may model ourselves accordingly.
It might be said that we take Hiram Abif as our Exemplar, but it is equally true that we pay little attention to his character, so far as our own lives are concerned, and are content to merely accept our legend as an ideal, without even pausing to examine ourselves honestly, and make sure we should, under similar circumstances, comfort ourselves accordingly.
In fact, if we are honest, we must admit that in lesser trials we do fall far short of our Masonic obligations.
