That Freemasonry is a peculiar system of morality none who know anything about it will deny ; nor will its members deny the allegorical and symbolical character of this system which has ever been a fruitful source of inspiration to earnest Brethren who have endeavoured to lift veil after veil in their efforts to discover more and more of its underlying truths.
Many scholarly Brethren have given us the benefit of their researches and yet there is much in our ritual and ceremonial and in the furnishings of the Lodge which still remains to be satisfactorily explained for its presence there when we remember that our Institution is ostensibly carried on solely for the propagation of the moral and social virtues among selected individuals.
