The first meeting of which there are minutes took place on 15 May 1872. Bros Bee, Aitken, Christie, Rose, Henderson, Livingston, Galbraith, Bullen and McTaggart were present with Bro Christie RWM elect in the chair.
On Friday 17 May 1872 Bro Gore RWM of Otago Kilwinning 417 (deputising for RWPGM Bro Vincent Pyke) supported by Bros P M Mills and Caldwell opened the lodge in the first degree and consecrated it Oamaru Kilwinning Lodge.
Thomas Meek (Miller), H H Coggins (Chemist), W McFarlane (Draper) and James Barclay (Carpenter) were initiated, and Wm Bee (storekeeper) was proposed.
