The following appeared in St. James' Evening Post of 24th December, 1728;
Last Friday night at a Tavern not far from the Royal Exchange there was a Lodge of Freemasons for accepting some new members, when an unlucky accident happened which had like to have discovered the Grand Secret; for one of the Probationers was so surprised when they pulled off his hat and perriwig, unbuttoned his collar and sleeves, took out his shoe buckles, and stripped him to his shirt, that he watched his opportunity upon seeing the door of the room half open, and ran out into the street, to the great terror of the Oyster-Woman, but was pursued by his fraternity, who persuaded him with good words to return back to the lodge, and comply with the rest of the ceremonies of his installation.
