EDITOR’S NOTE: This paper was read by Wor. Bro R. S. McCully, then Master of Lodge St. George, before a Meeting of Masters and Wardens at Timaru, on 29th July 1947, and resulted in the formation of the South Canterbury Wardens' Council, which has done good work since that date and up to the present time.
From the time a brother takes office in his Lodge until he is installed into the Chair of his Lodge, he is making himself conversant with the ritual and generally mastering the various parts of the ceremony, which concern the three Degrees as they are worked from month to month.
Until then it is not his duty to guide and direct the brethren, nor is he called upon to do so.
He is to "correct the errors, etc,” but if he does his work well and attends his Lodge and practice regularly, he is invariably elected Master Elect,
