The teachings of Enoch were a long time in taking possession of the hearts of men, for during a period of nearly two thousand years the history of the race can scarcely be claimed as pleasant reading, or show that man had, except in exceptional cases, grasped the sublime truth of his relationship to the great source of life from which he came, or that he was in any way accountable to God for the welfare of his fellow man.
