One evening in mid-2018, I attended a Lodge meeting where a young man was Raised to the 3rd Degree.
After the ceremony he was sitting with his grandfather, and I heard his grandfather tell him that the Order of the Secret Monitor was recognised by the Grand Lodge of New Zealand.
Knowing this was not the case, but not wishing to create offence, I said nothing, and instead came home and started searching for a flow diagram of all the Masonic Orders which work in New Zealand.
I found plenty of diagrams for other Masonic Constitutions but nothing for New Zealand.
Being somewhat younger than I am now, I stayed up most of the night drafting something which showed what I wanted to explain - the inter-relationship between the Grand Lodge of New Zealand and the many other Masonic Orders which also operate here under their own Sovereign Bodies – some of which are even today are still located overseas.
