Hypothesis: That Freemasonry developed out of certain incidents which occurred in Scotland during the reign of Robert the Bruce and involved the remnants of the suppressed Order of the Temple.
Following publication of The Temple and the Lodge by Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh, there is a commonly held belief among my peers that a Templar fleet stationed at La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast of France avoided the arrest orders of Pope Clement and sailed via the Irish Sea to Scotland where the Order re-established its operations and these by a roundabout way gave rise to the Craft.
