The Masonic literature contains many papers concerning individual Masonic musicians and specific works of music, either for Masonic ritual or other purposes, or containing Masonic influences.
I have been unable to find any works specifically placing Masonic musicians within an historical perspective of contrasting musical periods and styles.
This paper seeks to be a necessarily brief sweep through the history of western classical music from the 18th to 20th centuries.
