Let me say in the first place that there has been for years in some of our Lodges an insidious movement, grown in many cases without being observed, of allowing our Lodges to become mere refined and somewhat exclusive clubs. Let me ask you to call to mind the first question put to you when you sought admission to the Lodge—"In whom do you put your trust?" — and then to ask you to remember that the Volume of the Sacred Law was the first great light revealed to you ; and, Brethren, let us not seek to avoid the issue that a public profession of our belief in God and recognition of the Bible as the Great Light and Guide to our life was required of us when we entered the Lodge.
