In delivering the Inaugural Lecture of this Lodge, it is fitting that rather than direct your attention to some particular topic of Masonic study I should deal with the general scope of what may be the Lodge's work.
To begin with, we must not be put about by our somewhat elaborate title of "Research Lodge."
It is a name trust upon us in the first place by the Book of Constitution, and next by custom; partly also because the more modest term, Lodge of Instruction, has been appropriated for another phase of the Craft's activities.
It means (or let us take it to mean) no more than a Lodge where the Brethren are particularly concerned with carrying out the old injunction to make a daily advancement in Masonic knowledge.
