The Lodge was consecrated in 1933 with R W Bro Rev Robert Waugh as its first Master. It is noted that at that time R W Bro Waugh was the Provincial Grand Master for the Hawke's Bay Provincial District, an office he held from 1931 to 1937. It was he who facilitated the formation of a Research Lodge in Hawke's Bay, the fifth such lodge to be constituted in New Zealand and the first away from a major city. Four years earlier (1929) he had been installed as the first Master of Te Mata Lodge No 298. Was he influential in the formation of that lodge as well?
