The explanation of the Second Degree Tracing Board, given to me as a Fellowcraft Freemason many, many years ago, was the first instance that I can recall when plants and freemasonry were coupled together. Several years later, when my wife and I were travelling through Israel, we purchased from a street vender some fresh pomegranates.
I remember vividly my amazement as to the number of seeds found inside the fruit and thought about a line from the lecture – pomegranates, from the exuberance of their seeds, denote plenty.
