Freemasonry has since its inception been attacked and criticised.
The attacks have come from its open enemies, and the criticism from both its enemies and its friends.
The most consistent attacks have been those launched by its avowed enemy, the Roman Catholic Church, which for a period of 200 years has been bitterly attacking Freemasonry.
