There runs through the length and breadth of Masonic Research two distinct schools of thought as regards the methodology of Masonic Research: the authentic school, dependent upon factual exaltedness of the information being offered on the one hand, and the symbolic school resplendent with its fine symbolism and deep esoteric meanings on the other.
Unfortunately it has been such that ‘never the twain shall meet’.
It is my intention to change that with this paper, which sets out to document, as far as possible, the history of the many and varied esoteric organisations, particularly those of a peculiarly western orientation, within New Zealand.
